Sara Sant'Ambrogio is a renowned cellist and classical music artist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and passionate interpretations of some of the most beloved works in the classical repertoire. Born in New York City in 1960, Sant'Ambrogio began playing the cello at the age of five, and quickly showed a remarkable talent for the instrument. Growing up in a musical family, Sant'Ambrogio was exposed to a wide range of musical styles and genres from an early age, and was encouraged to pursue her passion for the cello by her parents, both of whom were professional musicians. She studied with some of the most respected cello teachers in the world, including Leonard Rose, Harvey Shapiro, and Bernard Greenhouse, and quickly established herself as a rising star in the classical music world. Sant'Ambrogio's career took off in the 1980s, when she joined the Eroica Trio, a groundbreaking chamber ensemble that was one of the first all-female groups to achieve international acclaim. With Sant'Ambrogio on cello, Adela Peña on piano, and Susie Park on violin, the Eroica Trio quickly became known for their dynamic performances and innovative programming, which combined classical masterpieces with contemporary works and lesser-known gems from the chamber music repertoire. Over the years, the Eroica Trio has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Ravinia Festival, and has collaborated with some of the most respected musicians in the classical music world, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Pinchas Zukerman. The group has also recorded several critically acclaimed albums, including their Grammy-nominated debut album, "Eroica," which featured works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvorak. In addition to her work with the Eroica Trio, Sant'Ambrogio has also established herself as a solo artist and chamber musician, performing with some of the most respected orchestras and ensembles in the world. She has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others, and has collaborated with some of the most respected conductors in the classical music world, including Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, and James Levine. Sant'Ambrogio's repertoire as a soloist and chamber musician is wide-ranging and eclectic, encompassing works by some of the greatest composers in the classical music canon, as well as contemporary works by living composers. She has premiered works by such composers as Joan Tower, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, and Paul Schoenfield, and has been praised for her ability to bring a fresh and vibrant energy to even the most familiar works in the repertoire. Throughout her career, Sant'Ambrogio has been recognized for her exceptional talent and artistry with numerous awards and honors. In addition to the Grammy nomination for her work with the Eroica Trio, she has received the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and the Naumburg International Cello Competition, among others.
