Erwin Schiffer was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1955, in Vienna, Austria. He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Erwin showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Erwin's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied with several renowned pianists, including Friedrich Gulda and Martha Argerich. Erwin's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. In 1972, Erwin made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. This performance marked the beginning of Erwin's career as a soloist, and he went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1980, he was awarded the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, becoming the first Austrian pianist to win the competition. He was also awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21.
