The Mozart String Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over two decades. The trio was founded in 1997 by three accomplished musicians, violinist Annette von Hehn, violist Liisa Randalu, and cellist Clemens Hagen. The ensemble is named after the legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose music they frequently perform. Annette von Hehn was born in Germany and began playing the violin at the age of five. She studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and later at the Juilliard School in New York. Liisa Randalu was born in Estonia and started playing the viola at the age of six. She studied at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and later at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. Clemens Hagen was born in Austria and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The Mozart String Trio has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. They have appeared at major music festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Rheingau Musik Festival. The trio has also performed at prestigious concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. One of the highlights of the Mozart String Trio's career was their performance at the 2006 Salzburg Festival. They performed Mozart's Divertimento in E-flat major, K. 563, which is considered one of the greatest works for string trio. The trio's performance was praised by critics for their impeccable technique and musicality. The trio has also recorded this work for the ECM label, which received critical acclaim. In addition to their performances of Mozart's music, the trio has also explored the works of other composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. They have recorded several albums for the ECM label, including a recording of Beethoven's String Trio in C minor, Op. 9, No. 3, which was praised by critics for its "intense and passionate" interpretation. The Mozart String Trio has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2003, they were awarded the Echo Klassik award for their recording of Mozart's Divertimento in E-flat major, K. 563. They were also awarded the Diapason d'Or award for their recording of Beethoven's String Trio in C minor, Op. 9, No. 3.
