Matthew Coley is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a marimba soloist, chamber musician, and educator. Born in 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Coley grew up in a musical family and began playing percussion at a young age. He was drawn to the marimba, a percussion instrument that resembles a xylophone but has a deeper, richer sound. Coley attended the University of Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance. He went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, where he studied with marimba virtuoso Leigh Howard Stevens.
