He also studied composition and conducting. After completing his studies, he started working as a pianist and arranger for various Dutch radio stations. In 1945, Dolf van der Linden founded the Metropole Orchestra, which became one of the most popular orchestras in the Netherlands. The orchestra played a wide range of music, including jazz, pop, and classical. Dolf van der Linden was the conductor of the orchestra for over 25 years, and during his tenure, the orchestra recorded over 1,500 pieces of music. Dolf van der Linden was also a prolific composer, and he wrote music for films, television, and radio. He composed the music for several Dutch films, including "Fanfare" and "Dorp aan de rivier." He also wrote the music for the Dutch television series "Floris" and "De Fabeltjeskrant." In addition to his work with the Metropole Orchestra, Dolf van der Linden conducted several other orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
