The Amadeus Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1984 in Toronto, Canada. The ensemble is known for its exceptional performances of chamber music, which includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. The founding members of the Amadeus Ensemble were Moshe Hammer, a violinist, and Serouj Kradjian, a pianist. Both musicians had already established themselves as accomplished performers in their own right, but they shared a passion for chamber music and wanted to create an ensemble that would allow them to explore this genre in greater depth. Over the years, the Amadeus Ensemble has had several different members, but the core group has always consisted of Moshe Hammer and Serouj Kradjian. Other members have included cellist David Hetherington, violist Douglas Perry, and clarinetist Joaquin Valdepeñas. One of the highlights of the Amadeus Ensemble's career was their performance at the 1988 Olympic Arts Festival in Calgary, Canada. The ensemble was chosen to represent Canada at this prestigious event, and they performed a program of works by Canadian composers, including R. Murray Schafer and John Weinzweig. Another notable performance by the Amadeus Ensemble was their appearance at the 1991 Casals Festival in Puerto Rico. This festival is named after the legendary cellist Pablo Casals, and it attracts some of the world's most talented musicians. The Amadeus Ensemble performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, which was very well received by the audience and critics alike. In addition to their live performances, the Amadeus Ensemble has also recorded several albums over the years. Their first album, released in 1987, featured works by Mozart and Beethoven. This album was very well received by critics, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading chamber music groups in Canada. The Amadeus Ensemble has received several awards and honors over the years. In 1990, they were awarded the prestigious Juno Award for Best Classical Album for their recording of works by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer. This award is the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards in the United States. In 2004, the Amadeus Ensemble was awarded the Order of Canada, which is the highest civilian honor in Canada. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Canadian society, and it is a testament to the ensemble's dedication to promoting classical music in Canada and around the world. Today, the Amadeus Ensemble continues to perform and record music, and they remain one of the most respected and admired chamber music ensembles in Canada. Their commitment to excellence and their passion for classical music have made them a beloved institution in the Canadian music scene, and their legacy will continue to inspire future generations of musicians and music lovers.
