The Chicago Symphony Strings is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over a century. Founded in 1891, the ensemble has become one of the most celebrated orchestras in the world, known for their impeccable technique, rich sound, and dynamic interpretations of classical music. The ensemble was originally formed as a string quartet, but over time it grew to become a full orchestra, with a core group of 16 string players. The ensemble's founding members included some of the most talented musicians of their time, including violinists Max Bendix and Victor Herbert, violist Carl Brueckner, and cellist Ludwig Becker. Throughout its history, the Chicago Symphony Strings has been led by a number of distinguished conductors, including Frederick Stock, Rafael Kubelik, and Daniel Barenboim. In 1959, they were awarded the Grammy Award for Best Classical Performance - Chamber Music (including chamber orchestra) for their recording of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. They have also been awarded the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Today, the Chicago Symphony Strings continues to be one of the most respected and beloved classical music ensembles in the world.
