Joseph Skillen was born on May 12, 1985, in Dublin, Ireland. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Skillen showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Skillen was enrolled in the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he received formal training in piano performance. He quickly distinguished himself as a prodigious talent, winning numerous awards and competitions throughout his youth. In 2003, Skillen was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where he continued his studies under the tutelage of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. During his time at Juilliard, Skillen honed his skills as a performer and composer, and he began to develop a reputation as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Skillen embarked on a career as a concert pianist, performing extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
