Artist Info
Role:ConductorPeriod:BaroqueClassicalGenre:ChamberConcertoKonrad Hunteler was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music through his exceptional skills as a flutist, teacher, and author. Born on August 17, 1927, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Hunteler showed an early interest in music and began playing the flute at the age of 12. He received his formal music education at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Johan Feltkamp, a prominent Dutch flutist. After completing his studies, Hunteler embarked on a successful career as a flutist, performing with various orchestras and ensembles across Europe. He was particularly known for his interpretations of Baroque and Classical music, and his performances were characterized by their technical precision, expressive phrasing, and nuanced musicality. One of the highlights of Hunteler's career was his tenure as the principal flutist of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, a position he held from 1955 to 1965. During this time, he performed extensively with the orchestra, both in the Netherlands and abroad, and recorded several critically acclaimed albums, including a series of recordings of the complete flute concertos of Antonio Vivaldi. In addition to his work as a performer, Hunteler was also a highly respected teacher and author. He taught at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1955 to 1987, where he mentored numerous young flutists who went on to successful careers in music. He also wrote several influential books on flute technique and interpretation, including "The Flute" and "The Interpretation of Early Music," which are still widely used as standard texts in music schools around the world. Hunteler's contributions to the world of music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1962, he was awarded the Prix Italia for his recording of the Vivaldi flute concertos, and in 1977, he was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Dutch citizen. He was also a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 1997, he was awarded the prestigious Edison Classical Music Award for his lifetime achievement in music. Despite his many accomplishments, Hunteler remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He continued to perform and teach well into his later years, and his legacy as a musician and educator continues to inspire generations of flutists around the world. He passed away on January 28, 2010, at the age of 82, leaving behind a rich and enduring legacy in the world of classical music.More....
