Virgilio Bianconi was born on October 22, 1949, in Milan, Italy. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. Bianconi began playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. He went on to study at the Milan Conservatory, where he received his diploma in piano performance with honors. Bianconi's career as a classical pianist began in the early 1970s, when he won several international competitions, including the Busoni Competition in Bolzano, Italy, and the Viotti Competition in Vercelli, Italy. These victories launched his career and led to performances throughout Europe and the United States. In 1975, Bianconi made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout his career, Bianconi has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. In 1987, he was awarded the prestigious Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize, which is given to outstanding pianists who have made significant contributions to the world of classical music. He has also been awarded the Italian Order of Merit and the French Order of Arts and Letters. In addition to his performing career, Bianconi is also a respected teacher. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Milan Conservatory, the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Bianconi's recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Gramophone Award.
