He was the younger brother of Giovanni Bononcini, who was also a composer. Antonio Maria Bononcini was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Giovanni Maria Bononcini, was a violinist and composer. His mother, Maddalena Rossati, was also a musician and singer. Antonio Maria Bononcini began his musical education at a young age, studying with his father and other local musicians. He showed great talent as a composer and performer, and by the age of 16, he had already composed several works for the church. In 1696, he moved to Rome to study with the famous composer and teacher, Arcangelo Corelli. During his time in Rome, Bononcini composed several works, including his first opera, "Xerse," which was performed in 1698. In 1701, Bononcini moved to Vienna, where he was appointed as the court composer to the Holy Roman Emperor, Leopold I. During his time in Vienna, he composed several operas, including "Astarto," which was performed in 1708. He also composed several works for the church, including his "Missa in C," which was performed in 1705. In 1711, Bononcini moved to London, where he became a popular composer and performer. He was appointed as the composer to the Royal Academy of Music, and he composed several operas, including "Camilla," which was performed in 1715.
