As a child, Edith was also interested in singing and began taking voice lessons when she was 12 years old. She quickly discovered that singing was her true passion and decided to pursue a career in opera. She attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she studied voice and opera. After graduating from Juilliard, Edith began her career as an opera singer. She made her debut in 1951 at the New York City Opera, where she performed the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Her performance was well-received, and she quickly became a sought-after performer. Over the next few years, Edith performed in many major opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Royal Opera House in London, and La Scala in Milan.
