He was born on December 12, 1921, in New York City, United States. Searing was the son of a violinist, and he grew up in a musical family. His father, Harry Searing Sr., was a member of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and his mother, Mary Searing, was a pianist. Searing started playing the violin at the age of four, and he showed exceptional talent from an early age. He received his first formal training from his father, who was his first teacher. Searing's father recognized his son's talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Searing continued his studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he studied under the renowned violinist Ivan Galamian. He also studied with other notable violinists, including Efrem Zimbalist and Jascha Heifetz. Searing made his debut as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 16.
