The BYU Philharmonic Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. The orchestra was founded in 1958 by K. Newell Dayley, a professor of music at BYU, and has since become one of the premier orchestras in the Intermountain West. The orchestra is made up of approximately 100 student musicians, many of whom are pursuing degrees in music performance or education. The ensemble is led by its conductor, Kory Katseanes, who has been with the orchestra since 2003. Over the years, the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra has performed a wide range of classical repertoire, from Baroque to contemporary music. The orchestra has also collaborated with a number of renowned soloists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Joshua Bell. One of the highlights of the orchestra's history was its performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 2016.
