Francesco Cera is a renowned Italian harpsichordist and organist, known for his exceptional musicianship and technical prowess. Born in 1968 in Rome, Italy, Cera began his musical journey at a young age, showing a natural aptitude for the keyboard instruments. Cera's early training was under the tutelage of his father, who was a pianist and composer. He later went on to study at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he honed his skills in harpsichord and organ performance. During this time, he also studied with some of the most prominent harpsichordists of the time, including Ton Koopman and Gustav Leonhardt. Cera's talent and dedication to his craft soon began to pay off, and he quickly gained recognition as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation. In 1992, he won the prestigious International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges, Belgium, which helped to launch his career on the international stage. Since then, Cera has gone on to perform at some of the world's most renowned concert halls and festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. He has also collaborated with some of the most respected conductors and orchestras in the world, including the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Concert, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Cera's repertoire is vast and varied, encompassing works from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach, and has recorded several critically acclaimed albums of Bach's keyboard works. In addition to his work as a performer, Cera is also a respected musicologist and scholar. He has published numerous articles and essays on the history and performance practice of early music, and has served as a consultant and advisor to several major music institutions. Throughout his career, Cera has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is considered one of the highest honors in the Italian music world. He has also been awarded the Diapason d'Or, the Choc de la Musique, and the Gramophone Award, among others. Despite his many achievements, Cera remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record regularly, and is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential harpsichordists of his generation.
