Period:ClassicalGenre:ChoralOrchestralCamerata Academica Wurzburg is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1978 in Wurzburg, Germany. The ensemble was established by a group of music students from the University of Wurzburg who shared a passion for chamber music and wanted to create a platform to showcase their talents. The founding members of Camerata Academica Wurzburg were all students of the renowned violinist and conductor, Professor Hermann Rugenstein. Under his guidance, the ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. Over the years, Camerata Academica Wurzburg has grown to become one of the most respected chamber music ensembles in Germany. The ensemble's repertoire spans from the Baroque era to contemporary music, and they are known for their dynamic and engaging performances. The main members of Camerata Academica Wurzburg are violinists Andreas Krecher and Katharina Schmitt, violist Ulrich Schmid, cellist Matthias Lorenz, and pianist Michael Schäfer. All of the members are accomplished musicians in their own right, and they bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the ensemble. Camerata Academica Wurzburg has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe, including the Salzburg Festival, the Rheingau Musik Festival, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with some of the world's leading soloists, including violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and pianist Martha Argerich. One of the highlights of Camerata Academica Wurzburg's career was their performance at the 2006 Salzburg Festival, where they performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major with Martha Argerich as the soloist. The performance was widely praised for its energy and precision, and it cemented the ensemble's reputation as one of the finest chamber music ensembles in Europe. Camerata Academica Wurzburg has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1998, they were awarded the Bavarian Culture Prize for their contributions to the cultural life of the region. They have also been recognized for their recordings, including their 2010 album of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21 with pianist Christian Zacharias, which won the Echo Klassik award for Best Concerto Recording. Despite their many achievements, Camerata Academica Wurzburg remains committed to their original mission of promoting chamber music and providing a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents. They continue to perform regularly throughout Germany and Europe, and they are widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles of their generation.More....
