Role:ConductorDaniel Bara is a renowned conductor and educator in the world of classical music. Born in 1966 in New York City, Bara grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. He began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the trumpet and French horn. Bara attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied conducting with Otto-Werner Mueller and James DePreist. He also studied trumpet with William Vacchiano and French horn with Julie Landsman. After graduating from Juilliard, Bara continued his studies at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Master of Music degree in conducting. Bara's career as a conductor began in earnest in the early 1990s, when he was appointed the music director of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in Michigan. He held this position for six years, during which time he led the orchestra in a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary works. He also worked with many renowned soloists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Joshua Bell. In 1998, Bara was appointed the director of choral activities at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. In this role, he oversaw the university's choral program and conducted the university's flagship ensemble, the Hodgson Singers. Under Bara's leadership, the Hodgson Singers became one of the most respected collegiate choral ensembles in the United States, winning numerous awards and performing at major venues across the country. In addition to his work at the University of Georgia, Bara has also been a guest conductor with many orchestras and choirs around the world. He has conducted the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. He has also conducted choirs at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Bara's conducting style is characterized by his attention to detail and his ability to bring out the best in his performers. He is known for his ability to communicate effectively with musicians and for his deep understanding of the music he conducts. His performances are often praised for their clarity, precision, and emotional depth. Throughout his career, Bara has received numerous awards and honors for his work as a conductor and educator. In 2005, he was awarded the Richard Hill Award for Outstanding Choral Director by the Georgia Music Educators Association. In 2010, he was named a Fellow of the American Choral Directors Association, one of the highest honors in the field of choral music. In 2016, he was awarded the Michael Korn Prize for his contributions to the field of Jewish choral music. In addition to his work as a conductor, Bara is also an accomplished composer and arranger. He has written numerous choral works, including settings of Jewish liturgical texts and arrangements of folk songs from around the world. His compositions and arrangements have been performed by choirs around the world and have been featured on several recordings. Bara is also a dedicated educator and mentor to young musicians.
