Artist Info

Cyrus Beroukhim is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a violinist, conductor, and composer. Born in New York City in 1976, Beroukhim grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist, and they both encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Beroukhim began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with some of the best teachers in the world, including Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School and Itzhak Perlman at the Perlman Music Program. He also studied conducting with David Zinman at the Aspen Music Festival. Beroukhim's career as a performer began in earnest in the late 1990s, when he won several prestigious competitions, including the Naumburg International Violin Competition and the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. These victories led to performances with some of the world's top orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of Beroukhim's most memorable performances came in 2001, when he played the solo violin part in John Adams' Violin Concerto with the New York Philharmonic. The piece was written specifically for Beroukhim, and he received critical acclaim for his performance. The New York Times called him "a virtuoso of the highest order" and praised his "dazzling technique and expressive power." In addition to his work as a performer, Beroukhim is also an accomplished composer. He has written several pieces for orchestra, chamber ensemble, and solo instruments, and his music has been performed by some of the world's top musicians. In 2005, he was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to write a piece for their Contact! series, which showcases new works by emerging composers. Beroukhim's conducting career began in the early 2000s, when he was invited to lead several youth orchestras in the United States and Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as a skilled and inspiring conductor, and he was soon invited to lead professional orchestras as well. In 2007, he was appointed the music director of the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for several years. Throughout his career, Beroukhim has received numerous awards and honors for his work as a musician. In addition to his competition victories, he has been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the S&R Washington Award, and the Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant. He has also been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and the Aspen Music Festival. Beroukhim continues to perform, compose, and conduct around the world, and he is widely regarded as one of the most talented and versatile musicians of his generation. His passion for music and his dedication to his craft have made him a beloved figure in the classical music world, and his contributions to the art form will be remembered for years to come.
