Mona Golabek is a renowned classical pianist and author who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and inspiring life story. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1950, Golabek was raised in a family of musicians and artists. Her mother, Lisa Jura, was a talented pianist who had fled Nazi-occupied Austria as a young girl and went on to become a successful concert pianist in the United States. Her father, Michel Golabek, was a French resistance fighter who later became a film producer. From a young age, Golabek showed a natural talent for music and began studying piano with her mother. She quickly developed a deep love for classical music and spent countless hours practicing and perfecting her technique. As she grew older, Golabek began to perform in public and quickly gained a reputation as a prodigious young talent. In 1961, Golabek's mother published a memoir entitled "The Children of Willesden Lane," which chronicled her experiences as a young Jewish girl in Nazi-occupied Austria and her journey to the United States. The book became a bestseller and inspired Golabek to continue her mother's legacy by sharing her story and her music with the world. Over the years, Golabek has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. She has collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition to her work as a performer, Golabek is also a respected author and educator. She has written several books, including "The Children of Willesden Lane," which was adapted into a stage play and has been performed around the world. She is also the founder and president of the non-profit organization Hold On To Your Music, which uses the power of music to inspire and educate young people. Throughout her career, Golabek has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who have the potential for major careers in classical music. She has also been honored by the Los Angeles Music Center, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, and the Anti-Defamation League, among others. Despite her many accomplishments, Golabek remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, sharing her love of music and her mother's inspiring story with audiences around the world. Through her work, she has become a true ambassador for classical music and a beacon of hope for all those who have faced adversity in their lives.
