He was a celebrated organist, harpsichordist, and conductor, known for his exceptional skills and contributions to the world of classical music. Tachezi's musical journey began at a young age when he started playing the piano. He later switched to the organ and studied under the tutelage of Anton Heiller at the Vienna Academy of Music. He also studied harpsichord with Isolde Ahlgrimm and composition with Karl Schiske. In 1960, Tachezi won the first prize at the International Organ Competition in Haarlem, Netherlands, which marked the beginning of his successful career. He went on to perform at various prestigious venues across Europe, including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Tachezi was also a prolific recording artist, having recorded over 100 albums throughout his career. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose music he considered to be the pinnacle of Western classical music. One of Tachezi's most notable performances was his rendition of Bach's Goldberg Variations, which he recorded in 1979. The recording received critical acclaim and is considered one of the definitive interpretations of the piece. In addition to his solo performances, Tachezi was also a sought-after conductor. He served as the principal conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra from 1976 to 1984 and conducted numerous orchestras throughout Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Tachezi's contributions to the world of classical music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1986, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, and in 1996, he received the Grand Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria.
