La Divina Armonia is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 in Lima, Peru. The group is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained international recognition for its unique interpretations of works by composers such as Bach, Handel, and Mozart. The ensemble was founded by conductor and harpsichordist Lorenzo Ramos, who had previously studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. Ramos was inspired to form La Divina Armonia after attending a performance by the European Baroque Orchestra, and he sought to create a similar ensemble in Peru that would showcase the country's rich musical heritage. The group's name, which translates to "The Divine Harmony," reflects its commitment to performing music that is both beautiful and spiritually uplifting. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by both well-known and lesser-known composers, and its members are known for their virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations. La Divina Armonia's main members include Ramos, who serves as the group's artistic director and conductor, as well as a number of talented musicians who specialize in Baroque and Classical music. These include violinists Luis Alberto Poma and Luis Alberto Casas, cellist Carlos Johnson, and flutist Luis Miguel Flores, among others. Since its founding, La Divina Armonia has performed at a number of prestigious venues and festivals around the world. In 2008, the group made its international debut at the Festival de Música Antigua de Úbeda y Baeza in Spain, where it received critical acclaim for its performance of Handel's "Messiah." The following year, the ensemble performed at the Festival Internacional de Música de Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, where it was praised for its "exquisite sound" and "impeccable technique." In 2011, La Divina Armonia was invited to perform at the prestigious Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico, where it presented a program of Baroque music that included works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Telemann. The ensemble's performance was hailed as "a triumph of virtuosity and musicality" by the Mexican newspaper Reforma. In addition to its live performances, La Divina Armonia has also released several recordings that have received critical acclaim. These include its debut album, "Baroque Music from Peru," which features works by Peruvian composers such as Juan de Araujo and Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco, as well as its recording of Handel's "Messiah," which was praised for its "clarity, precision, and emotional depth" by the British magazine Gramophone. Over the years, La Divina Armonia has received numerous awards and honors for its contributions to the world of classical music. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the National Prize for Culture in Peru, which recognized its "outstanding contribution to the dissemination and promotion of Baroque music in the country." The following year, the group was named a Cultural Ambassador of Peru by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in recognition of its efforts to promote Peruvian culture abroad. Today, La Divina Armonia continues to be one of the most respected and admired classical music ensembles in the world. With its commitment to excellence, its passion for Baroque and Classical music, and its dedication to promoting the rich musical heritage of Peru, the group has earned a place among the great ensembles of our time.
