Artist Info
Period:BaroqueGenre:ChoralGerda Schriever was born on May 12, 1985, in Berlin, Germany. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Gerda showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Gerda was enrolled in the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where she received her formal training in classical piano. She quickly became known for her exceptional talent and was soon performing in concerts and competitions throughout Germany. In 2003, Gerda won first prize in the International Piano Competition in Munich, which launched her career as a professional musician. She went on to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Gerda's performances were always highly praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. She was known for her ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of each piece she played, and her interpretations were always deeply moving. In addition to her solo performances, Gerda also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. She performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic, among others. Throughout her career, Gerda received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. She was awarded the prestigious International Classical Music Award in 2010, and was named a Steinway Artist in 2012. Despite her success, Gerda remained humble and dedicated to her craft. She continued to practice for hours each day, always striving to improve her technique and interpretation. Tragically, Gerda's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. She underwent treatment, but the cancer proved to be too aggressive, and she passed away on June 15, 2016, at the age of 31. Gerda's legacy lives on through her recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear her perform. She will always be remembered as one of the greatest classical pianists of her generation, and a true inspiration to musicians around the world.More....
