Role:EnsemblePeriod:ClassicalGenre:ChamberMa'alot Quintett is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 in Germany. The ensemble consists of five members who are all accomplished musicians in their own right. The members of the ensemble are: Ulrich Mehlhart (flute), Andreas Krecher (oboe), Andreas Arndt (clarinet), Alexander Glücksmann (horn), and Christian Kunert (bassoon). The founding of Ma'alot Quintett was the result of a shared passion for chamber music among the five musicians. They had all played together in various orchestras and ensembles, and they wanted to create a group that would allow them to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music for wind instruments. The name "Ma'alot" is Hebrew for "ascents" or "steps," and it reflects the ensemble's commitment to continually striving for excellence in their music-making. Since its founding, Ma'alot Quintett has become one of the most highly regarded wind quintets in Europe.
