Trio K/D/M is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009. The trio consists of three members: violinist Stefan Jackiw, pianist Anna Polonsky, and cellist Jay Campbell. The ensemble has gained recognition for their dynamic and expressive performances, as well as their innovative programming. Stefan Jackiw, the violinist of the trio, was born in Boston in 1985. He began playing the violin at the age of four and made his orchestral debut at the age of twelve. He has since performed with numerous orchestras around the world, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Jackiw has also won several awards, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. Anna Polonsky, the pianist of the trio, was born in Russia and raised in the United States. She began playing the piano at the age of six and made her orchestral debut at the age of ten. Polonsky has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Moscow Virtuosi, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Joshua Bell. Jay Campbell, the cellist of the trio, was born in Berkeley, California in 1987. He began playing the cello at the age of six and made his orchestral debut at the age of twelve. Campbell has performed with many orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also won several awards, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. The trio first came together in 2009, when they were invited to perform at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Young Musicians Program. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form Trio K/D/M. The ensemble's name is derived from the first letter of each member's last name. Since their formation, Trio K/D/M has performed at many prestigious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist Itzhak Perlman and pianist Emanuel Ax. One of the highlights of Trio K/D/M's career was their performance at the 2016 Mostly Mozart Festival in New York City. The trio performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, which was met with critical acclaim. The New York Times praised the ensemble's "exquisite playing" and "deeply felt interpretations." Trio K/D/M has also been recognized for their innovative programming. They often perform works by contemporary composers alongside more traditional repertoire, and have commissioned several new works for their ensemble. In 2015, they premiered a new work by composer Andrew Norman at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. In addition to their performances, Trio K/D/M is also committed to music education. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at many universities and conservatories, including the Juilliard School and the New England Conservatory.
