The ensemble is named after the famous Austrian composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and is known for its performances of his works, as well as those of other classical composers. Jürgen Kussmaul, who was born in 1944 in Mannheim, Germany, studied music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart. He later became a member of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, where he played as a violinist and violist. In 1977, he joined the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, where he worked with the renowned conductor, Ton Koopman. In 1981, Kussmaul founded the Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam, which initially consisted of a small group of musicians who shared his passion for Mozart's music. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances, and it soon expanded to include a larger group of musicians. The Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam has had several main members over the years, including Jürgen Kussmaul himself, who played the violin and viola, as well as other talented musicians such as the flutist, Jed Wentz, and the cellist, Jaap ter Linden. The ensemble has also collaborated with many guest artists, including the pianist, Ronald Brautigam, and the soprano, Barbara Schlick. One of the highlights of the Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam's career was its performance of Mozart's complete piano concertos, which took place over a period of several years. The ensemble performed all 27 of Mozart's piano concertos, with Ronald Brautigam as the soloist, and the performances were recorded and released on CD. The Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam has also performed many other works by Mozart, including his symphonies, chamber music, and operas. The ensemble has also performed works by other classical composers, such as Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert. The Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam has received several awards and accolades over the years. In 1991, the ensemble was awarded the Dutch Edison Award for its recording of Mozart's complete piano concertos. The ensemble has also received critical acclaim for its performances, with reviewers praising its precision, clarity, and musicality. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam has also been involved in educational and outreach programs. The ensemble has given masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has performed in schools and community centers to introduce classical music to a wider audience. Today, the Mozart-Ensemble Amsterdam continues to perform and record, under the direction of Jürgen Kussmaul and other guest conductors. The ensemble remains dedicated to the music of Mozart and other classical composers, and continues to inspire audiences with its passionate and insightful performances.More....
