Born on the 28th of August 1985 in Durban, South Africa, Madlala grew up in a musical family. His father was a choir conductor, and his mother was a church organist. Madlala's love for music started at a young age, and he began singing in his church choir when he was just six years old. Madlala's passion for music continued to grow, and he went on to study music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2006 and went on to pursue a postgraduate diploma in opera at the same institution.
