She was born in New York City in 1944 and grew up in a family that valued music. Her father was a pianist, and her mother was a singer, so it was natural for Susan to develop an interest in music from a young age. Susan began her musical training at the age of six when she started taking piano lessons. She showed great promise and quickly progressed, winning several local competitions. However, it was not until she discovered the violin at the age of ten that she found her true passion. Susan's talent on the violin was evident from the start, and she soon began studying with some of the best teachers in the country. She attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she studied with Ivan Galamian, one of the most renowned violin teachers of the 20th century. She also studied with Dorothy DeLay, who was known for her work with some of the most famous violinists of the time, including Itzhak Perlman and Midori. After completing her studies at Juilliard, Susan began her professional career as a violinist. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and she was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. She performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of Susan's career was her performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Seiji Ozawa. The performance was widely praised, and Susan was hailed as one of the most promising young violinists of her generation. Susan's talent as a chamber musician was also recognized, and she was a founding member of the Lydian String Quartet. The quartet quickly gained a reputation as one of the best in the country, and they performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. They also recorded several albums, including a highly acclaimed recording of the complete string quartets of Bela Bartok. In addition to her work as a performer, Susan was also a respected teacher. She taught at several universities, including the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of California, Santa Barbara. She was known for her dedication to her students and her ability to inspire them to reach their full potential. Susan's contributions to the world of music were recognized with several awards and honors. She was a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is awarded to outstanding young musicians who show great promise. She was also awarded the prestigious Naumburg Award, which is given to exceptional young musicians who demonstrate outstanding talent and promise.
