Jerome Casalonga is a French classical guitarist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative approach to the instrument. Born in Ajaccio, Corsica in 1983, Casalonga began playing guitar at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several renowned guitarists, including Roland Dyens and Judicael Perroy, and went on to earn degrees from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. Casalonga's early performances were marked by his technical proficiency and his ability to convey a wide range of emotions through his playing. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most promising young guitarists in France, and began to attract attention from audiences and critics alike. In 2005, he won first prize at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, which helped to launch his career on the international stage. Since then, Casalonga has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also worked with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Gustavo Dudamel. Casalonga's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by many of the greatest composers in the classical guitar canon, including Bach, Sor, Giuliani, and Tarrega. He is also known for his innovative arrangements of popular music, including works by the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. His performances are marked by his technical precision, his expressive phrasing, and his ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level. In addition to his performing career, Casalonga is also a dedicated teacher and has taught masterclasses at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He is also a prolific recording artist and has released several critically acclaimed albums, including his most recent release, "The Beatles on Guitar." Throughout his career, Casalonga has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical guitar. In addition to his win at the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, he has also won first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Paris and the International Guitar Competition of Havana. He has been awarded the prestigious French government award, the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and has been named a "Rising Star" by the European Concert Hall Organization.
