Musica Intima is a Canadian classical music ensemble that was founded in 1992 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The group is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of choral music, and has gained a reputation as one of Canada's premier vocal ensembles. The founding members of Musica Intima were a group of friends who shared a passion for choral music. They began rehearsing together in 1990, and soon realized that they had a unique chemistry and sound. In 1992, they officially formed Musica Intima, and began performing in and around Vancouver. From the beginning, Musica Intima was committed to exploring new and innovative approaches to choral music. They were particularly interested in exploring the possibilities of unaccompanied vocal music, and began to develop a repertoire of a cappella works from a wide range of musical styles and traditions. One of the early highlights of Musica Intima's career was their performance at the 1993 Vancouver International Choral Festival. The group's dynamic and engaging performance earned them critical acclaim and helped to establish their reputation as one of Canada's most exciting and innovative choral ensembles. Over the years, Musica Intima has continued to push the boundaries of choral music, exploring new styles and techniques and collaborating with a wide range of artists and musicians. They have performed at major festivals and venues across Canada and around the world, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In addition to their live performances, Musica Intima has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their 2004 album "Into Light" was nominated for a Juno Award, and their 2011 album "Thirst" was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by the Vancouver Sun. One of the hallmarks of Musica Intima's performances is their commitment to creating a deep and meaningful connection with their audience. They often perform in intimate settings, such as churches and small concert halls, and strive to create a sense of intimacy and connection with their listeners. In recognition of their innovative and dynamic approach to choral music, Musica Intima has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2007, they were awarded the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America, and in 2012 they were named the Canadian Ensemble of the Year by the Canadian Music Centre. Despite their many achievements, Musica Intima remains committed to their original vision of exploring the possibilities of choral music and creating a deep and meaningful connection with their audience. They continue to push the boundaries of the genre, and to inspire and delight audiences around the world with their innovative and dynamic performances.
