Artist Info
Sofie Vanden Eynde is a Belgian classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a lutenist, theorbo player, and singer. Born in 1989 in Leuven, Belgium, Vanden Eynde grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was a musicologist and her mother was a singer, and they both encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Vanden Eynde began playing the lute at the age of 12 and quickly fell in love with the instrument. She studied at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven and later at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where she received a master's degree in lute performance. During her studies, she also took courses in singing and musicology, which helped her develop a well-rounded understanding of music. Vanden Eynde's talent as a lutenist was recognized early on in her career, and she quickly began performing in concerts and festivals throughout Europe. In 2012, she won first prize at the International Van Wassenaer Competition in Utrecht, Netherlands, which helped to further establish her reputation as a rising star in the classical music world. Since then, Vanden Eynde has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Philharmonie de Paris. She has also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians in the field, including Jordi Savall, Philippe Herreweghe, and Paul Van Nevel. One of Vanden Eynde's most notable performances was her solo recital at the Utrecht Early Music Festival in 2016. The festival is one of the most important events in the early music world, and Vanden Eynde's performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity and emotional depth. She played a variety of pieces from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, showcasing her versatility as a musician. In addition to her work as a performer, Vanden Eynde is also a dedicated teacher and researcher. She has taught at several music schools in Europe and has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. She is also a doctoral candidate at the University of Leuven, where she is researching the music of the Flemish composer Johannes Ciconia. Vanden Eynde's dedication to her craft has earned her numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In addition to her win at the International Van Wassenaer Competition, she has also received the Prix Musica Antiqua Bruges and the EUBO Development Trust Award. She was also a finalist in the prestigious International Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2018. Despite her success, Vanden Eynde remains humble and focused on her art. She is constantly seeking new ways to explore and interpret the music of the past, and she is passionate about sharing her knowledge and expertise with others. With her talent, dedication, and passion, Sofie Vanden Eynde is sure to continue making a significant impact on the classical music world for years to come.More....
