Artist Info
Mikhail Chernyakhovsky was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 15, 1948, in Moscow, Russia. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. From a young age, Mikhail showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Mikhail's talent was quickly recognized, and he was accepted into the Moscow Conservatory at the age of 12. He studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in Russia, including Lev Vlassenko and Yakov Flier. Mikhail's dedication and hard work paid off, and he graduated from the conservatory with honors in 1971. After graduation, Mikhail began performing in concerts and recitals throughout Russia and Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso pianist, known for his technical skill and emotional depth. In 1973, he won the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition, which cemented his status as one of the world's leading pianists. Throughout his career, Mikhail performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Claudio Abbado. Mikhail's repertoire was vast and included works by many of the great composers, including Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Sergei Prokofiev, and his recordings of Prokofiev's piano concertos are considered some of the best ever made. In addition to his performances, Mikhail was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Moscow Conservatory for many years and was known for his dedication to his students. Many of his students went on to become successful pianists in their own right. Mikhail's career was not without its challenges. He lived and worked during a time of political upheaval in Russia, and his performances were sometimes censored or restricted. However, he remained committed to his art and continued to perform and teach despite these obstacles. Mikhail's contributions to classical music were recognized with many awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to his Tchaikovsky Competition win, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland by the Russian government in 2008. He was also a recipient of the State Prize of the Russian Federation and the People's Artist of Russia award. Sadly, Mikhail passed away on December 6, 2017, at the age of 69. However, his legacy lives on through his recordings and the many students he taught throughout his career. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest pianists of his generation, and his contributions to classical music will continue to inspire future generations of musicians.More....
