He was born on September 16, 1950, in Toronto, Canada, and grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. His father was a music teacher, and his mother was a painter, which helped to foster his love for music and the arts from a young age. Fallis began his musical journey as a chorister at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, where he received a rigorous musical education. He later went on to study music at the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1972. After completing his studies, Fallis returned to Toronto and began his career as a conductor and singer. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and he was soon in demand as a conductor for both choral and orchestral performances. He also became a sought-after soloist, performing in concerts and operas across Canada and around the world. One of Fallis's most significant achievements was his work as the founding artistic director of the Toronto Consort, a renowned early music ensemble. He led the group from its inception in 1972 until 1990, and during that time, he helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading early music groups in North America. Under his leadership, the Toronto Consort performed a wide range of music from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, and they were known for their innovative and engaging performances. Fallis's work with the Toronto Consort led to many other opportunities in the world of classical music. He has conducted orchestras and choirs across Canada and around the world, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
