Rachel Barton Pine is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a violinist, recording artist, and educator. Born on October 11, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois, Pine began playing the violin at the age of three and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Pine's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking lessons with renowned violin teacher and pedagogue, Roland Vamos, at the age of five. By the time she was seven, Pine had already performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and at age ten, she made her solo debut with the orchestra. Throughout her childhood, Pine continued to hone her skills and perform at various venues across the United States. She also won numerous competitions, including the prestigious J.S. Bach International Violin Competition in Germany at the age of 17. In 1992, Pine graduated from the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music and went on to study at the renowned Juilliard School in New York City. While at Juilliard, Pine studied with the legendary violinist, Dorothy DeLay, and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in 1995. After graduating from Juilliard, Pine embarked on a successful career as a soloist, performing with major orchestras around the world. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, among others. Pine has also released numerous recordings, including several critically acclaimed albums. Her album, "Bach: Complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin," was named one of the best classical recordings of 2016 by The New York Times. She has also recorded works by composers such as Vivaldi, Mozart, and Beethoven. In addition to her performing career, Pine is also a dedicated educator. She has taught at various institutions, including the Music Institute of Chicago and the North Park University School of Music. She is also the founder and artistic director of the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation, which provides music education and instruments to young musicians in need. Throughout her career, Pine has received numerous awards and honors. In 1993, she was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and in 1995, she won the Avery Fisher Career Grant. She has also been awarded the Helen M. Thompson Award from the American String Teachers Association and the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award from the Illinois Humanities Council.
