The Szymanowski State Philharmonic Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Krakow, Poland. The choir was founded in 1945, shortly after the end of World War II, and has since become one of the most respected and celebrated choirs in Europe. The choir was named after the famous Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, who was born in Tymoszówka, Ukraine in 1882. Szymanowski was a prolific composer who is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in 20th-century classical music. His works are known for their innovative use of harmony, rhythm, and melody, and he is particularly celebrated for his contributions to the development of Polish music. The Szymanowski State Philharmonic Choir was established with the aim of promoting and performing the works of Szymanowski and other Polish composers. The choir quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional musicianship and its commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Poland. Over the years, the choir has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The choir has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, and Simon Rattle. One of the highlights of the choir's career was its performance at the 1998 World Choral Symposium in Rotterdam, where it received widespread acclaim for its rendition of Szymanowski's Stabat Mater. The choir has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the Grand Prix at the International Choral Competition in Arezzo, Italy, and the Gold Medal at the International Choral Competition in Tolosa, Spain. In addition to its performances of classical music, the Szymanowski State Philharmonic Choir has also been involved in a number of innovative and experimental projects. In 2010, the choir collaborated with the Polish electronic music duo Skalpel on an album called "Transit," which combined traditional choral music with electronic beats and samples. Despite its many achievements, the Szymanowski State Philharmonic Choir remains committed to its original mission of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Poland. The choir continues to perform the works of Szymanowski and other Polish composers, and it remains a vital and important part of the country's cultural landscape.
