Ariel Ramírez was a renowned Argentine composer and pianist who was born on September 4, 1921, in Santa Fe, Argentina. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. His father, Cipriano Ramírez, was a composer and conductor, and his mother, Sara Oviedo, was a pianist. Ariel Ramírez showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Ramírez studied music at the National University of Rosario and later at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. He was a talented pianist and won several awards for his performances. In 1946, he became the director of the National Folklore Ballet, where he began to incorporate traditional Argentine music into his compositions. One of Ramírez's most famous works is the Misa Criolla, which he composed in 1964. The Misa Criolla is a mass in Spanish that incorporates traditional Argentine folk music and instruments, such as the charango and the bombo. The piece was a departure from traditional Catholic masses, which were typically performed in Latin. The Misa Criolla was an instant success and has been performed all over the world. Ramírez also composed several other works that incorporated traditional Argentine music, such as the Navidad Nuestra, which is a Christmas cantata, and the Cantata Sudamericana, which celebrates the history and culture of South America. He also composed several pieces for piano, including the Suite Andina and the Suite Folklorica. In addition to his work as a composer, Ramírez was also a pianist and performed all over the world. He was known for his virtuosic performances and his ability to incorporate traditional Argentine music into his playing. He also collaborated with several other musicians, including the Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa. Ramírez was a prolific composer and continued to write music until his death in 2010. He was a beloved figure in Argentina and was known for his contributions to the country's cultural heritage. His music continues to be performed and celebrated all over the world.
