TM+ is a French contemporary classical music ensemble that was founded in 1985 by Laurent Cuniot, a composer and conductor. The ensemble is known for its innovative and experimental approach to music, and has become one of the most respected and influential contemporary music groups in France. The founding of TM+ was a response to the lack of opportunities for contemporary classical music in France at the time. Cuniot, who had studied composition at the Paris Conservatory, wanted to create a platform for new and experimental music that would challenge traditional notions of classical music. He assembled a group of like-minded musicians, and TM+ was born. The ensemble's name, TM+, stands for "Tous Mes Plus Longs Voyages" (All My Longest Journeys), which reflects the group's commitment to exploring new musical territories. From the beginning, TM+ has been dedicated to commissioning and performing new works by contemporary composers, and has collaborated with some of the most innovative and influential composers of our time. Over the years, TM+ has had a rotating cast of musicians, but the core members have remained constant. These include Laurent Cuniot (conductor), Hélène Colombotti (percussion), Jean-Philippe Collard-Neven (piano), and Vincent Leterme (piano). The ensemble has also worked with a number of guest musicians and conductors, including Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, and Magnus Lindberg. One of the highlights of TM+'s career was their performance at the Festival d'Automne in Paris in 1990. The ensemble performed a program of new works by composers such as Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, which received critical acclaim and helped establish TM+ as a leading force in contemporary classical music. In 1992, TM+ was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros for their recording of works by composer Gérard Grisey. This was a significant achievement for the ensemble, as the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros is one of the most prestigious awards in French music. Another notable performance by TM+ was their collaboration with the French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj in 2001. The ensemble provided the music for Preljocaj's ballet "Near Life Experience," which premiered at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. The ballet was a critical and commercial success, and helped bring TM+'s music to a wider audience. In recent years, TM+ has continued to push the boundaries of contemporary classical music. They have collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including visual artists, writers, and filmmakers, and have performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe and beyond. Overall, TM+ has had a significant impact on the contemporary classical music scene in France and beyond. Their commitment to new and experimental music has helped to expand the boundaries of classical music, and their innovative approach has inspired a new generation of composers and musicians.
