Gregor Horsch is a renowned cellist and conductor who has made a significant impact on the classical music scene. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1966, Horsch began playing the cello at the age of six. He showed exceptional talent and was soon accepted into the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he studied under the tutelage of Dmitri Ferschtman. Horsch's talent was quickly recognized, and he began performing professionally at the age of 16. He won several prestigious awards, including the first prize at the National Cello Competition in Amsterdam in 1988. This success led to his debut as a soloist with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, which marked the beginning of his international career. Horsch's career as a soloist took off in the 1990s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented cellists of his generation. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has recorded the complete cello concertos of Haydn, Schumann, and Dvorak, as well as works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich. His recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. In addition to his performing and recording career, Horsch is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam since 1997 and has also given masterclasses around the world.
