Kristine Jepson is a renowned mezzo-soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born on August 28, 1962, in San Francisco, California, Jepson grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a singer. Jepson started singing at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Jepson attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied voice with Jane Randolph. She later went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. While at Juilliard, Jepson studied with Beverley Peck Johnson and Mignon Dunn. After completing her studies, Jepson began her career as a professional opera singer. She made her debut in 1988 at the San Francisco Opera, where she played the role of the Second Lady in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Jepson quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and her ability to convey emotion through her performances. Over the years, Jepson has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Paris Opera. She has also worked with some of the most renowned conductors in the world, including James Levine, Sir Simon Rattle, and Riccardo Muti. One of Jepson's most notable performances was in the Metropolitan Opera's production of "The Barber of Seville" in 1996. Jepson played the role of Rosina, and her performance was widely praised by critics. The New York Times called her "a Rosina of exceptional vocal and dramatic gifts." Jepson has also received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1992, she won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, which helped launch her career. She has also been awarded the Richard Tucker Award, the Marian Anderson Award, and the Opera News Award. In addition to her work as an opera singer, Jepson is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School, and she currently teaches at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Jepson's repertoire includes a wide range of operas, from Mozart to Verdi to contemporary works.
