Lauren Chipman is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the music industry through her exceptional skills as a violist. She was born on August 22, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a classical pianist, which exposed her to music at a young age. Lauren's love for music began when she was just four years old, and she started playing the piano. However, she soon discovered her passion for the viola and began playing it at the age of nine. She was a natural at the instrument and quickly progressed, earning a reputation as a prodigy. Lauren's talent was recognized early on, and she was accepted into the prestigious Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. She studied under the tutelage of renowned violist Paul Coletti, who recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. After completing her studies at the Colburn School, Lauren went on to attend the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with the legendary violist Samuel Rhodes. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2003 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the University of Southern California. Throughout her studies, Lauren participated in numerous competitions and won several awards. In 2001, she won the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition, which earned her a solo performance with the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra. She also won the USC Concerto Competition in 2004, which led to a performance with the USC Symphony Orchestra. Lauren's career as a professional musician began while she was still a student at USC. She was invited to join the Los Angeles Philharmonic as a substitute violist, and she quickly became a regular member of the orchestra. She also performed with other orchestras, including the Pacific Symphony, the Santa Barbara Symphony, and the New West Symphony. In addition to her work as an orchestral musician, Lauren is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Calder Quartet, the Lyris Quartet, and the Jacaranda Chamber Ensemble. She is also a founding member of the Grammy-nominated ensemble, the Partch Ensemble, which specializes in the music of composer Harry Partch. Lauren's talent as a violist has earned her numerous accolades throughout her career. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a significant career in music. She was also a recipient of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Robert and Arlene Kogod Award for Excellence in Orchestral Performance. One of the highlights of Lauren's career was her performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards. She was invited to perform with the Foo Fighters, who were nominated for several awards that year. Lauren played the viola on their hit song "Walk," which was nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Lauren's career has continued to flourish in recent years. She has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Los Angeles Opera. She has also been a guest artist at several music festivals, including the Ojai Music Festival and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.
