Andréa Tyniec is a Canadian violinist who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Tyniec began playing the violin at the age of three. She showed a natural talent for the instrument and quickly progressed in her studies. Tyniec's parents were both musicians, and they encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Tyniec studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. She then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned her Master of Music degree. Tyniec also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. Throughout her career, Tyniec has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. She has also performed as a soloist with the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. One of Tyniec's most notable performances was her debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 2010. She performed the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich, which was met with critical acclaim. Tyniec has also performed at the Ottawa Chamberfest, the Festival de Lanaudière, and the Festival de musique de chambre de Montréal. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Tyniec is also a member of the Molinari Quartet. The quartet has performed throughout Canada and Europe and has recorded several albums. Tyniec has also collaborated with other musicians, including pianist Angela Hewitt and cellist Stéphane Tétreault. Tyniec has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2009, she was awarded the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award, which is given to outstanding Canadian musicians under the age of 30. She was also a laureate of the Canada Council for the Arts' Musical Instrument Bank Competition in 2012, which allowed her to play on a rare 1689 Baumgartner Stradivarius violin. In 2015, Tyniec released her debut solo album, titled "Origins." The album features works by Bach, Ysaÿe, and Paganini, among others. The album was met with critical acclaim and was nominated for a Juno Award, which is Canada's top music award. Tyniec is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music. She has premiered works by several Canadian composers, including Ana Sokolović, Michael Oesterle, and Nicole Lizée. Tyniec has also commissioned works from composers such as Andrew Staniland and Vincent Ho. In addition to her performing career, Tyniec is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the University of Ottawa and the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Tyniec is also a faculty member at the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy.
