Jennifer Montone is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as one of the most talented horn players of her generation. Born on December 22, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, Montone grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a very young age. Her father was a professional trumpet player, and her mother was a music teacher, so it was only natural that Montone would develop a love for music. Montone began playing the horn at the age of 10 and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied with some of the best horn players in the world, including Dale Clevenger, William VerMeulen, and Julie Landsman. Montone attended the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with Myron Bloom and graduated in 1997. After graduating from Curtis, Montone joined the Houston Symphony Orchestra as third horn. She quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to principal horn in 2000. During her time with the Houston Symphony, Montone performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. She also performed with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Christoph Eschenbach, Hans Graf, and Leonard Slatkin. In 2006, Montone left the Houston Symphony to join the Philadelphia Orchestra as principal horn. This was a dream come true for Montone, as she had grown up listening to recordings of the Philadelphia Orchestra and had always admired their sound. Montone quickly became an integral part of the orchestra and was praised for her beautiful tone and impeccable technique. Montone has also been a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including the Marlboro Music Festival and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. In addition to her work as a performer, Montone is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and the Juilliard School. She is currently on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania. Montone has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2006, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise for the future. She was also a recipient of the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award in 2007. Montone's recordings have also received critical acclaim. Her recording of Mozart's Horn Concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra was praised for its "graceful phrasing and impeccable technique" by Gramophone magazine. Her recording of Schumann's Konzertstück for Four Horns and Orchestra with the Philadelphia Orchestra was also highly praised. Montone continues to be one of the most respected and admired horn players in the world. Her dedication to her craft and her commitment to excellence have made her a role model for young musicians everywhere.
