Role:EnsembleThe San Francisco Conservatory New Music Ensemble is a group of talented musicians who have come together to explore the world of contemporary classical music. The ensemble was founded in 2010 by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, one of the most prestigious music schools in the United States. The ensemble is made up of students and faculty members from the conservatory, as well as guest artists from around the world. They are led by conductor Nicole Paiement, who is also the artistic director of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. From the beginning, the ensemble has been dedicated to performing new and innovative works by living composers. They have commissioned and premiered numerous pieces, and have collaborated with some of the most exciting composers of our time. One of the highlights of the ensemble's early years was their performance at the 2012 Other Minds Festival in San Francisco. They performed works by composers such as John Cage, Lou Harrison, and Terry Riley, and received rave reviews for their innovative and engaging performances. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support their commissioning and performance of new works. This grant allowed them to continue their mission of promoting contemporary classical music and supporting emerging composers. Over the years, the ensemble has performed at numerous festivals and venues around the world, including the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, the Ojai Music Festival, and the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. One of the most memorable performances in the ensemble's history was their collaboration with the Kronos Quartet in 2016. They performed a program of works by Steve Reich, including his iconic piece "Different Trains." The performance was hailed as a triumph, and showcased the ensemble's incredible musicianship and dedication to contemporary music. In addition to their performances, the ensemble has also been active in the recording studio. They have released several albums, including "Currents," which features works by composers such as Mason Bates, John Adams, and Kaija Saariaho. Throughout their history, the San Francisco Conservatory New Music Ensemble has been dedicated to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new sounds and ideas. They have been recognized for their innovative programming and their commitment to supporting emerging composers, and have become one of the most exciting and dynamic ensembles in the world of contemporary classical music.More....
