Artist Info
Birth:1978 in Argenteuil, FranceJulien Martineau is a French classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a virtuoso of the mandolin. Born in 1982 in the city of Toulouse, Martineau grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a guitarist and his mother was a pianist, and they encouraged him to pursue music as a career. Martineau began playing the mandolin at the age of six, and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several renowned mandolinists, including Florentino Calvo and Vincent Beer-Demander, and also took lessons in classical guitar and music theory. He attended the Conservatoire National de Région de Toulouse, where he earned a diploma in mandolin performance. In 2001, Martineau won first prize in the prestigious Concours International de Mandoline de Castellar, a competition for young mandolinists. This marked the beginning of his career as a professional musician, and he soon began performing in concerts and festivals throughout Europe and the United States. Martineau's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary. He has performed works by composers such as Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Paganini, as well as contemporary composers like Astor Piazzolla and John Williams. He is known for his virtuosic technique and expressive playing, and has been praised for his ability to bring out the unique qualities of the mandolin as a solo instrument. One of Martineau's most notable performances was his debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2007. He performed a program of works by Vivaldi, accompanied by the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and helped to establish Martineau as one of the leading mandolinists of his generation. Martineau has also performed with other major orchestras, including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre National de Lille, and the Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse. He has collaborated with many other musicians, including pianist Vanessa Wagner, guitarist Thibaut Garcia, and cellist Henri Demarquette. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Martineau is also a member of several ensembles. He is a founding member of the Trio Mandel, a group that specializes in the music of the Baroque era. He is also a member of the Ensemble Matheus, a chamber orchestra that performs music from the Baroque and Classical periods. Martineau has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to his win at the Concours International de Mandoline de Castellar, he has also won first prize at the Concours International de Mandoline de Varazdin in Croatia and the Concours International de Mandoline de Bagnols-sur-Cèze in France. He was awarded the Prix de la Fondation Cziffra in 2008, and was named a laureate of the Fondation Banque Populaire in 2010. Martineau has also recorded several albums, including a solo album of works by Vivaldi and a collaboration with pianist Vanessa Wagner. His recordings have been praised for their technical precision and musicality, and have earned him a loyal following among classical music fans. In addition to his performing career, Martineau is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at several universities and conservatories, including the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.More....
