Artist Info
Apollo5 is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010. The group is made up of five members, all of whom are professional singers with extensive experience in the classical music world. The members of Apollo5 are sopranos Clare Stewart and Penelope Appleyard, countertenor Oliver Martin-Smith, tenor Josh Cooter, and bass-baritone Greg Link. The group was founded by Greg Link, who had previously been a member of the world-renowned a cappella group The King's Singers. Link wanted to create a new ensemble that would focus on a cappella music, but with a modern twist. He recruited four other singers who shared his vision, and Apollo5 was born. Since its founding, Apollo5 has become one of the most sought-after classical music ensembles in the world. The group has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. They have also performed at numerous festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Cheltenham Music Festival, and the Bath International Music Festival. One of the highlights of Apollo5's career was their performance at the 2012 London Olympics. The group was chosen to perform at the Olympic Torch Relay Concert in Hyde Park, which was attended by over 50,000 people. The group performed a selection of classical and contemporary pieces, including a specially commissioned piece by composer Howard Goodall. In addition to their live performances, Apollo5 has also released several albums. Their debut album, "With a Song in My Heart," was released in 2012 and features a mix of classical and contemporary pieces. The album received critical acclaim and helped to establish the group as one of the leading classical music ensembles in the world. Apollo5 has also won several awards for their performances and recordings. In 2013, the group won the Ward Swingle Award for Best Small Ensemble at the International A Cappella Competition in Graz, Austria. They have also been nominated for several Classical Brit Awards, including Best Ensemble and Best Album. Despite their success, Apollo5 remains committed to their original vision of creating a modern, a cappella ensemble that pushes the boundaries of classical music. The group continues to perform at venues around the world and to record new albums, always striving to bring their unique sound to new audiences.More....
