Allan Turner was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Turner showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Turner's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Under her guidance, Turner developed a deep understanding and appreciation for classical music. At the age of 12, Turner made his debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He played Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467, with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Turner received a standing ovation from the audience. Over the next few years, Turner continued to perform at various venues across Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera. He also won several awards, including the prestigious International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, in 2002. In 2005, Turner was invited to perform at the Proms, an annual music festival held in London. He played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The performance was broadcast live on television and radio, and it received widespread critical acclaim. Turner's career continued to flourish, and he became known for his virtuosic performances and his ability to bring new life to classical works. He was particularly admired for his interpretations of Chopin and Liszt, and he recorded several albums of their music. In 2010, Turner was invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall in New York City. He played a program of Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven, and the performance was hailed as a triumph. The New York Times praised Turner's "dazzling technique" and "sensitive musicality." In addition to his performing career, Turner was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at several music schools and universities, including the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York City. Many of his students went on to have successful careers in music. Tragically, Turner's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. He underwent several rounds of treatment, but his condition continued to deteriorate. He passed away on June 15, 2016, at the age of 31. Despite his short career, Allan Turner left a lasting legacy in the world of classical music. He was admired for his technical skill, his musicality, and his passion for the art form. His recordings and performances continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world.
