Role:EnsembleBrecon Baroque is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing Baroque music on period instruments. The group was founded in 2007 by violinist Rachel Podger, who serves as the ensemble's artistic director and lead violinist. Rachel Podger was born in 1968 in England and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and later at the Juilliard School in New York. Podger has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and has won numerous awards for her recordings, including a Gramophone Award in 2018 for her album "Guardian Angel." Brecon Baroque was formed by Podger in order to explore the rich repertoire of Baroque music and to perform it on period instruments. The ensemble takes its name from the town of Brecon in Wales, where Podger has a home and where the group often rehearses and performs. Brecon Baroque has quickly established itself as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in the world. The group has performed at many of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Edinburgh International Festival. One of the highlights of Brecon Baroque's career was their performance at the BBC Proms in 2013. The group performed a program of music by J.S. Bach, including his Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and his Violin Concerto in E major. The performance was widely praised by critics and was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Brecon Baroque has also collaborated with many other musicians and ensembles, including the vocal ensemble Voces8 and the viol consort Fretwork. The group has recorded several albums, including "Bach: The Art of Fugue" and "Vivaldi: La Stravaganza." In addition to their performances and recordings, Brecon Baroque is also committed to education and outreach. The group has conducted workshops and masterclasses for young musicians and has worked with schools and community groups to promote the appreciation of Baroque music. Brecon Baroque has received many awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In addition to Rachel Podger's Gramophone Award, the group has been nominated for several other awards, including a BBC Music Magazine Award and a Classical BRIT Award. Brecon Baroque's success is a testament to the enduring appeal of Baroque music and to the skill and dedication of its members. The group's commitment to authenticity and historical accuracy has helped to bring this music to life for modern audiences and to ensure that it will continue to be appreciated for generations to come.More....
