Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Prato, Italy. The group was founded in 1981 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to bring their art to a wider audience. The ensemble's early years were marked by a series of successful performances in and around Prato, as well as collaborations with other local musicians and artists. In 1983, the group made its first international appearance at the Festival de Musique de Menton in France, where they received critical acclaim for their performance of Mozart's Divertimento in D Major. Over the years, Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato has become known for its innovative programming and its commitment to exploring lesser-known works from the classical repertoire. The ensemble has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career came in 1991, when they were invited to perform at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II. The group performed a program of sacred music, including works by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi, to a rapturous audience of thousands. Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato has also been recognized for its recordings, which have received numerous awards and accolades. In 1998, the ensemble won the prestigious Diapason d'Or award for their recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21 with pianist Maria João Pires. The group has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Best Chamber Music Performance and Best Classical Album.
