Anton Maria Zanetti was a prominent Italian composer and musician of the Baroque era. He was born on December 12, 1679, in the city of Venice, Italy. Zanetti was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Francesco Zanetti, was a well-known composer and violinist. Anton Maria Zanetti showed an early interest in music and began his musical training at a young age. Zanetti's musical education began with his father, who taught him the violin and the basics of music theory. He then went on to study with some of the most prominent musicians of his time, including Giovanni Legrenzi and Antonio Lotti. Zanetti's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly became known as a skilled musician and composer. In 1703, Zanetti was appointed as the maestro di cappella at the Basilica di San Marco in Venice. This was a prestigious position, and it allowed Zanetti to showcase his talents as a composer and conductor. During his time at the Basilica di San Marco, Zanetti composed a number of works, including operas, oratorios, and sacred music. His music was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented composers of his time. One of Zanetti's most notable works is his opera, "La Circe," which was first performed in 1709. The opera tells the story of the sorceress Circe, who turns Odysseus' men into pigs. The opera was a great success, and it was performed throughout Italy and Europe. Zanetti's music was praised for its beauty and complexity, and it helped to establish him as a leading composer of his time. In addition to his work as a composer, Zanetti was also a skilled conductor. He was known for his ability to bring out the best in his musicians and for his attention to detail. Zanetti's career was not without its challenges, however. In 1717, he was accused of embezzlement and was forced to leave his position at the Basilica di San Marco. Anton Maria Zanetti died on January 18, 1756, at the age of 76.
