Tim Mead is a renowned countertenor in the world of classical music. Born in 1981 in Sussex, England, Mead grew up in a musical family. His father was a church organist, and his mother was a music teacher. Mead started singing at a young age and was a member of the choir at his local church. Mead's talent was recognized early on, and he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2003 and went on to study at the Royal College of Music, where he received a Master of Music degree in 2005. Mead's career as a professional singer began in 2006 when he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in the role of Apollo in Handel's "Apollo e Dafne." This performance was a turning point in Mead's career, and he quickly gained recognition as one of the leading countertenors of his generation. Since then, Mead has performed at some of the world's most prestigious opera houses and concert halls, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Handel's operas and oratorios, and he has performed in many productions of these works around the world. One of Mead's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Handel's "Orlando" at the Royal Opera House in London in 2011. This performance was widely praised by critics, who noted Mead's "rich, warm tone" and "impeccable technique." Mead has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2008, he was named a BBC New Generation Artist, which recognizes young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. He was also awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award for Best Baroque Vocal Album in 2013 for his recording of Handel's "Partenope."
