Ensemble Vocal Arts-Québec (EVAQ) is a classical music ensemble based in Quebec City, Canada. The group was founded in 1985 by conductor and artistic director, Guy Lavigne, with the aim of promoting choral music in Quebec and beyond. The ensemble's main members are a group of highly skilled and dedicated singers, many of whom have been with the group since its inception. EVAQ's repertoire includes a wide range of choral music, from early music to contemporary works, and the group is known for its precision, clarity, and expressive interpretations. Over the years, EVAQ has performed at numerous festivals and concert series in Canada and abroad, including the Festival International de Musique de Lanaudière, the Festival de Musique de Saint-Paul-de-Vence in France, and the International Choral Festival in Verona, Italy. The group has also collaborated with many renowned soloists and orchestras, including the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and the Orchestre Métropolitain. One of EVAQ's most notable performances was its participation in the 1994 World Choral Symposium in Vancouver, where the group received widespread acclaim for its performance of works by Canadian composers. The ensemble has also been recognized for its recordings, including its 1998 album, "Chants sacrés du Québec," which won a Félix Award for Best Classical Album. In addition to its performances, EVAQ is committed to promoting choral music through education and outreach. The group regularly offers workshops and masterclasses for singers and conductors, and has collaborated with schools and community organizations to bring choral music to a wider audience. Despite the challenges faced by classical music ensembles in the 21st century, EVAQ remains a vibrant and vital part of Quebec's cultural landscape. With its commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement, the group continues to inspire audiences and musicians alike.
